Well the main difference between patios and decks is that patios are usually a flat concrete or paved area and decks are usually built as a raised wooden platform.

Well, the choice to build a patio or to build a deck is one circumstance and tastes. If you have a home with uneven topography such as a sloping lot then you may not be able to pour a flat slab of concrete.

The wood needs to be treated so it does not wear out in the beating sun or heavy rain fall and snow. You may notice that some of the wood may become weak and crack over time and replacements may become necessary.

If you are going to build a deck, consider using pressure treated wood like Trex. This keeps the wood from cracking and rotting and it does not need much of any maintenance or treatments at all.

The choices are almost endless, but whichever you decide upon patios and decks are a delightful, picturesque and highly functional addition to your home.
